About the Organization

The Parkdale Village Arts Collective (PVAC) was founded in 1994 with support from the Parkdale Village Business Improvement Association and with a general objective of initiating positive social and cultural improvements in "the village" through providing needed support for a burgeoning community of artists and arts audiences.

PVAC was subsequently incorporated in 1997 as a non-profit, non-political collective of artists with a mission of ensuring the availability of professional-quality gallery facilities in which members and other emerging and established contemporary artists throughout the broader Toronto community could exhibit their works. Since 1998, the collective has achieved this aim principally through operating Gallery 1313, an "artist-run center" located deep in the heart of Parkdale Village at 1313 Queen Street West.

As of mid-2007, the collective and gallery have several hundred paid members and an elected board of 11 directors - members and non-members alike - who take an active role in the governance and operations of the collective and the gallery.
